STREAM IT National Science Communication Competition Held in Belgrade

The Association of Business Women in Serbia organized the STREAM IT National Science Communication Competition, implemented within the framework of the European project ST(R)E(A)M IT – Streaming Girls and Women into STEAM Education, Innovation and Research, funded through the Horizon Europe WIDERA Programme.

The event was opened by Olivera Popović, Vice President of the Association of Business Women in Serbia, who introduced participants to the STREAM IT project and the Association’s role in its implementation. Ivana Petrović, ABW Marketing Manager, presented the results of the “Catch an Idea” programme, which was also implemented within the project, while Lija Stojković, Project Manager, presented the mentoring programme and the key competencies participants had developed over the previous three months.

The competition represented the final activity of the mentoring programme aimed at strengthening science communication, public speaking, and research presentation skills. Throughout the programme, participants worked closely with mentors to improve their presentation abilities, learn how to communicate complex scientific topics to broader audiences, and build confidence in public speaking.

After several months of preparation and mentoring, the finalists of the national competition — Aleksandar Biberdžić, Milica Begović, and Slađana Stojanović — presented their research topics before an expert jury. Their presentations demonstrated a high level of expertise, creativity, and the ability to make scientific content accessible and engaging for a wider audience.

The winner of the STREAM IT National Science Communication Competition was Slađana Stojanović, who will represent Serbia at the international final in Budapest.

The winner was selected by an expert jury composed of:

  • Sanja Popović Pantić, PhD, President of the Association of Business Women in Serbia;
  • Dušica Semenčenko, PhD, Secretary of the Association of Business Women in Serbia;
  • Tatjana Mamula Nikolić, PhD, Full Professor at the Belgrade Banking Academy;
  • Sonja D. Radenković, PhD, Associate Professor at the Belgrade Banking Academy;
  • Tijana Sekulić, Founder of AT Consulting, Digital Transformation Consultant, and Certified AI Manager.

We congratulate Slađana, as well as all finalists, for their dedication, commitment, and outstanding presentations that marked the successful conclusion of the programme.

Special thanks go to the mentors, jury members, project partners, and members of the Association of Business Women in Serbia whose knowledge, support, and engagement contributed to the successful implementation of the programme and to the development of a new generation of researchers and science communicators.

The programme was implemented within the framework of the ST(R)E(A)M IT – Streaming Girls and Women into STEAM Education, Innovation and Research project, which aims to encourage greater participation of girls and women in STEAM fields through skills development, mentoring, and international cooperation.
