Third Free Educational Workshop and Study Visit Held within the WIN Project – Minimal Waste: A New Opportunity for Sustainable Tourism, Craftsmanship and Production

17.10.2025

Within the European project WIN – Improving the position of Women in the labour markets of peripheral INdustrial regions, the Association of Business Women in Serbia (ABW Serbia) organized the third free educational workshop in Sremski Karlovci. The workshop, dedicated to the circular economy and its application in tourism, craftsmanship and production, brought together women entrepreneurs and women interested in improving their businesses in line with sustainable principles.

The study visit was held on 17 October 2025 at the Krivac Rural Household, where the topic of the circular economy was addressed from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Marija Ignjatović, a consultant and entrepreneur specialized in social entrepreneurship, presented the basic principles of the circular economy, emphasizing the importance of waste reduction and efficient resource use for achieving sustainable business models. Dr Ivana Mišković, owner of the Krivac household, shared her experiences in applying circular economy principles in practice, demonstrating how tourism businesses can be improved through responsible resource management and recycling.

The circular economy, which involves waste reduction and extending product lifecycles through recycling, repair and reuse, is increasingly becoming a key element in the development of sustainable business models. Through an interactive session, participants became familiar with strategies they can apply in their own businesses, particularly in the fields of tourism and craftsmanship, which offer significant potential for the application of circular principles.

Following the lectures and discussion, a guided tour of Sremski Karlovci, one of the most beautiful towns in Vojvodina, was organized. Participants had the opportunity to visit important local landmarks such as the Patriarchate, the Theological Seminary, the Karlovci Grammar School, and the Cathedral Church of St Nicholas.

With the support of the City of Loznica and the Tourist Organization Loznica, the aim of this project is to strengthen women’s competitiveness in the labour market and promote sustainable and innovative business models. Through this project, ABW Serbia continues to provide women with opportunities for professional development and networking with experts in social entrepreneurship, digital marketing, the circular economy and other key fields.

At the end of the workshop, participants enjoyed a joint lunch and informal networking, where they exchanged experiences and established new contacts. This event marked another step towards empowering women entrepreneurs, enhancing their business skills, and fostering sustainable business initiatives that contribute to long-term economic and social growth.
